The code of conduct behind pirates behavior

There are various different ways pirates went about carrying out punishments from different ships
captains. For Bartholomew's crew, they leaned toward marooning the member of the crew or they would have to serve their consequence by paying a fine with money or some form of jewelry. Also, if someone was seen or caught stealing within the crew they would be left to die or sentenced to death.

A lot people believe that pirates lived this loose conquering over the seas of the Caribbean and  life living freely without any laws. Doing anything they want when they want. Yes they were seen as ruthless but lawless isn't fully truthful.

These pirates lived and abided by the same code of conduct. People don't realize that these pirates followed this code of conduct and used it as laws to act upon. All these rules in this code of conduct are followed up by consequences if you fail to abide by them. These punishments can range from flogging, to marooning, and to death. Another misconception people have about pirates, specifically the captains, is that they would make pirates walk the plank, but their are way more widely known forms of punishment at the time besides walking the plank.
Another thing about the pirates during this time is that there were a lot of different groups of pirates who worked and decided things in  a democracy form of doing things. If you think about it in reality at this time the governments in these areas were functioning in a monarchy form of government.

For example, Bartholomew Roberts number main rule was that everyone on the ship had a vote in everything that was important and everyone had an equal share of the provisions. Not only were these actions taking place but a lot of other things that resembled a sign of democracy. Pirates created an ordered that allowed them to vote for their captain, have the right to dispose their leader, and punish if breaks the rules.

In Today, these punishments are harsh , and breaking them would lead to punishment or death. For example , a captain being told by his crew if he was found concealing money they would throw him overboard. This will be considered harsh in today.

In a nut shell, though it seems ruthless, but a majority of different crews groups came together and agreed on these laws and acted upon them in their  daily lives. Rather than condemning them for their actions at the time ill defend their actions because of the agreement everyone would come to and that is the lives they chose to live, it wasn't forced no matter how harsh it seems.
